PSYCHOLOGICAL MECHANISMS OF CYBERBULLYING AMONG STUDENTS

Pages:

19-28

Abstract:

This article presents an analysis of the psychological mechanisms that mediate the emergence, maintenance, and overcoming of cyberbullying among students, as well as a systematization of the intrapersonal processes (cognitive, emotional, regulatory, motivational, perceptual) that determine digital aggression, victimization, and passive bystander behavior in higher education. The paper explores the mechanisms of selective attention and cognitive load; causal attribution styles and their role in the development of learned helplessness in victims; systematic cognitive distortions (hostile attribution bias, false consensus effect, illusion of transparency, confirmation bias); a deficit in empathic resonance caused by online disinhibition and dehumanization; and the mechanisms of emotional contagion and affective construction. Adaptive and maladaptive emotional regulation strategies, including rumination and cognitive reappraisal; self-control mechanisms (impulse control, delayed gratification) and metacognitive regulation; motivational structures of aggressors (dominance, revenge, normative pressure, entertainment) and victims (fear of rejection, need for affiliation); perceptual-interpretive phenomena of subjective anonymity, dehumanization, and moral alienation.

Keywords:

cyberbullying, psychological mechanisms, cognitive distortions, causal attribution, emotional regulation, impulse control, metacognitions, dehumanization, moral alienation, student environment.
